Not All Support Looks The Same

We had the article below sent to us after we carelessly posted a message of support on one of our Instagram follower’s posts. “Stay positive. You got this Mama.” What seems innocent to onlookers as a “you can do it” actually comes across as “it’s not ok to feel weak, scared, unsure, sad, etc.”

It’s truly no different than having some weird stranger on the street say “Smile”. What if I don’t want to smile? What if it’s the worst day of my life? By that person saying “smile”, they are immediately dismissing how I am feeling on the inside.

That being said, thank you so very much to our follower that pointed out our mistake today. It was a wonderful conversation and a humbling experience. Though we have gone through the same condition, everyone is different and everyone is entitled to their own feelings. So next time you want to show your support to someone, maybe just let them know you see them and ask them (don’t tell them) how you can help.
